With Newell’s Old Boys, Lisandro Martínez started his professional club career, making his debut in the 2016–17 campaign. He went on loan to Defensa y Justicia in August 2017, and in June 2018, his outstanding play won him a permanent transfer. As a regular player with Defensa y Justicia, Martínez has shown his versatility and defensive prowess.

Martínez signed a €7 million contract with Ajax in July 2019. Martínez won four games for Argentina’s Under-20 team in the 2017 South American Youth Soccer Championship. Argentina was eligible for the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup. Although he was unable to travel for the U-20 World Cup, he did make one bench appearance against Guinea.

He got the call from the senior Argentine team for the first time on March 22, 2019. He defeated Venezuela in his debut match on March 22, 2021.
