Footballers Who Need To Upgrade: There comes a time in the life of a footballer when he has to leave his club and step up to a much bigger stage. Jude Bellingham, Harry Kane, and Declan Rice did it in the summer and we can all already see the results those decisions are having in their careers.
Footballers Who Need To Upgrade
Well, there are some guys who need to follow that path in 2024. These are 10 footballers who need to upgrade their current clubs.
1. Victor Osimhen
Let’s start with Victor Osimhen. The Nigerian striker already outdid himself by helping Napoli win the Serie A while also winning the Capocannoniere, Serie A Footballer of the Year, and finishing in the Ballon d’Or top 10, but it is time to go.
In fact, he should have actually walked out the door along with Luciano Spaletti, but hey! It’s not too late. Napoli had a very good 2022-23 season, but it doesn’t look like they have the firepower to keep going, so Osimhen needs to jump ship now that he’s still widely sought-after.
Arsenal seems very interested and Chelsea might be in the race, too. The 24-year-old definitely has options, so he better upgrade now!
2. Ivan Toney
Arsenal and Chelsea also seem to be very interested in Ivan Toney. The English center-forward will have finished serving his 8-month ban in January, so he’ll be available from the beginning of 2024.
Looking at his numbers from last season, Toney certainly needs to upgrade. He’ll do well at a big club, and he certainly should be a regular in European football at this stage of his career.
3. Kylian Mbappe
Another obvious name on this list is Kylian Mbappe. No need to mince words, we all know Mbappe is bigger than PSG. This guy is arguably the most talented player of his generation; he should have won a Champions League and a Ballon d’Or by now, but it’s not looking like he can do any of that at PSG, so he needs to leave if he wants to live up to his full potential.
And Mbappe is the one person who never has to bother about clubs being interested in him. If he announces himself available today, at least 5 big clubs would fall over themselves to try and sign him.
He just needs to leave PSG, and left to us, Real Madrid seems like the perfect fit.
4. Lautaro Martinez
The same way Barcelona might just be the perfect fit for Lautaro Martinez. The Argentine has really given his all to Inter Milan. He has helped them win the league and taken them to the finals of the Europa League and even the Champions League, but it might just be time for him to upgrade.
Perhaps he’ll finally begin to get the accolades and recognition he truly deserves at a big club.
He could maybe be the heir to Lewandowski at Barcelona, who knows?
5. Serhou Guirassy
Serhou Guirassy is currently having one hell of a season with Stuttgart. Only Harry Kane has scored more goals than him in the Bundesliga this season, and that’s saying a lot because Kane himself is having a record-breaking start to life at Bayern.
With the numbers Guirassy is currently putting up, we’re pretty certain top clubs will be after him at the end of the season, and he better grab that upgrade with both hands.
5. Son Heung-min
Speaking of Harry Kane, he took a huge leap by upgrading from Spurs to Bayern, and it seems like it’s paying off. That alone should be enough encouragement for Son Heung-min to also follow that path.
The South Korean is already 31, he’s not getting any younger. He needs to go out and actually play for a big club and battle for trophies every season. He has the ability to succeed at any big club and he needs to upgrade already.
6. Kaoru Mitoma
Another Asian forward who might need to upgrade ASAP is Kaoru Mitoma. He has already done a lot for Brighton by helping them secure qualification for European football for the first time ever, but he may now need to move on from the club.
Mitoma has the skills and abilities to succeed at a bigger club, and it might be time for him to take his talents elsewhere and truly shine. The Japanese has all it takes to be one of the best left-wingers in the world, he just needs to step up to a bigger stage.
7. Ollie Watkins
Watkins has now had a few good seasons at Aston Villa, so it might be time to upgrade. Yeah, Emery seems to have made him even more potent, but it’s always wisest to secure a big move when your stocks are high, isn’t it? That is why 2024 might just be the best time for Watkins to upgrade.
8. Martin Zubimendi
Let’s now cross over to La Liga and look at Martin Zubimendi who is already proving himself to be one of the best defensive midfielders in Spain. Real Sociedad qualifying for the Champions League has raised his stocks even higher because he is proving to be that guy on the biggest stage.
But he surely needs an upgrade. Barcelona seems like the most obvious move. They still haven’t been able to find a long-term replacement for Sergio Busquests, and Zubimendi might just be their guy.
An upgrade to a club like Barcelona would definitely increase his rank in the national team and bring him more accolades and recognition.
9. Claudio Echeverri
We will now wrap up this list with a lad named Claudio Echeverri. This kid is just 17 but he is already proving to be the next big thing. He won the Bronze Boot while representing Argentina at the under-17 World Cup where he scored a quarter-final hattrick against rivals Brazil.
In October, The Guardian named him one of the best players in the world born in the year 2006, and if you have ever watched him play, you’d be compelled to agree.
The Little Devil, as he is fondly called, is already drawing comparisons with the Argentina national team captain Lionel Messi, and you already know that’s saying a whole lot. He currently plays for River Plate in Argentina, but we expect that he’ll make an upgrade and move to Europe at the end of the season.
Now, who’s going to be lucky enough to snatch this guy? We’ll only have to wait and find out. But guys, don’t forget the name Claudio Echeverri. He’s about to be the next big thing!
Anyway, which other footballer would you say needs to upgrade their current clubs?
